The Andover Arms: The Perfect Local

The Andover Arms: The Perfect Local

Chintan Patel

The Andover Arms is about to re-open under a new – but familiar – tenant

Intimate, comfortable and old-fashioned in the best sense, The Andover Arms is a hidden gem in the heart of Brackenbury Village. Imagine the consternation, then, when this quintessential local pub closed in July. But there is good news: The Andover will re-open in late September under the new tenant and popular former Head Chef, Chintan Patel.

‘I’d worked here for seven years and really enjoyed it,’ says Chintan. ‘Then, completely out of the blue, I got a call from Fuller’s saying the pub was on offer and would I be prepared to take over the tenancy. I know the place inside out – I know all the regulars and they know me. It was a fantastic opportunity and one I just couldn’t let pass by.’

Chintan started his career in hospitality 15 years ago at the Thatched House. Obviously, his knowledge and experience of the trade was recognised by Fuller’s management and he has a clear idea of what he wants to achieve at The Andover. ‘I see us as a proper British pub with good ales, an excellent wine list and serving delicious food (Chintan will continue to be Head Chef). Of course, what won’t change is the cosy “second home” feel.’

Previously, The Andover Arms had a deserved reputation for hearty, high quality cuisine. ‘Diners used to come here from all around West London and it’s important that we attract them back,’ explains Chintan. ‘The food will reflect the nature of the pub, we’ll use the best fresh ingredients and the menu will change seasonally. We’ll be placing great emphasis on our Sunday Lunches, with beef, lamb, pork, chicken and vegetarian roasts, and I’ll also be introducing an afternoon snacks menu (3-6pm) and selling takeaway beers.’

Chintan has worked with Fuller’s to create a wine list for The Andover and he has an enthusiastic new team in place, featuring a couple of former staff in Aisha and Joe. ‘Becoming the tenant is a little scary, but it’s very exciting at the same time. I’m really looking forward to the challenge.’
