With a new Winter Den dedicated to stylish seasonal gifts and decorations and a wide choice of high quality Christmas trees, W6 Garden Centre is the place to go for festive inspiration
Together with the flourishing Ravenscourt Park Farmers’ Market (every Saturday 10am-2pm), W6 Garden Centre has become a focal point for Hammersmith locals and a destination for those from nearby areas, such as Chiswick, Fulham and Shepherd’s Bush.
‘We’ve really noticed that people are visiting the Market, enjoying a walk in the Park and then popping in to see us, whether that’s to stock up on plants, to buy gardening and homeware gifts or to meet friends at our café,’confirms Louise Alhadeff, the Garden Centre Manager. ‘It’s lovely to feel that we’re now at the heart of a thriving community.’
At this time of year, there’s more reason than ever to stop at W6, which is located on the edge of Ravenscourt Park, just off King Street. Louise and her team have recently opened a pop-up seasonal shop called The Winter Den and The Green Room, a wonderful indoor oasis of houseplants, is as popular as ever. Also, there’s the usual selection of premium Christmas trees and the prize-winning café (it won the 2019 Lux Life award for London’s Best Garden Centre Café) is now open againwith plenty of outdoor chairs, tables and, most importantly, heaters.
‘We’re particularly excited about The Winter Den as it’s a brand new venture for us,’ says Louise. ‘Curated by our Creative Director, Paul Holt, the Den is a showcase for a superb collection of lifestyle and home furnishing gifts and exquisite seasonal decorations to suit all tastes and budgets. And it’s not a one-off; throughout next year we’ll be constantly reinventing the space and using it in different ways.’
The Garden Centre’s Christmas trees are sourced from a prestigious family-run supplier in Surrey. ‘We choose non-drop Nordmann firs but, if you would like something a little more unusual, we also have beautifully scented Fraser and Noble firs,’ explains Louise.
‘The Fraser is slimline, which makes it perfect for a small urban space, and the Noble has gorgeous two-tone foliage. We’re offering local delivery for just £5, including at weekends, and we also have a good supply of sustainable living trees, readymade wreaths and an expert florist will be on site creating wreaths to order.’
This Winter marks the first anniversary of the opening of W6’s hugely successful Green Room. Situated in a previously unused railway arch and also the brainchild of Paul Holt, it is a floor-to-ceiling indoor jungle devoted solely to houseplants and their accessories.
‘House plants lift the spirits and they’re so important in an urban environment,’ says Louise. ‘Paul is constantly sourcing new specimens – we have fresh stock coming in every week – and the quality is just exceptional. We sell a wide cross-section: tall and small, trailing, climbing and hanging, well-known and exotic, and our resident experts, Corinna and Chiara, are on hand to help you choose the best plants for your home and give advice on how to look after them.
‘Our aim is to deliver outstanding service in a life-enhancing, safe environment in which everyone feels welcomed by friendly, knowledgeable staff,’ adds Louise. ‘We’re passionate about what we do and we want to make sure our customers always have the best experience. That’s what business should be about.’
