Glass Door Homeless Charity: A Winter Lifeline

Lucy Abraham

Glass Door Homeless Charity provides essential shelter and practical support for rough sleepers in West London

‘We’re open to men and women of all races, religions and social circumstances,’ says Lucy Abraham, CEO of Glass Door Homeless Charity. ‘If it weren’t for the pandemic, we would have been welcoming up to 170 homeless guests inside church halls to sleep this winter. However, we’ve had to adapt our services and provide shelter in a way that was safe for our guests, volunteers and staff.’

In November, Glass Door opened 92 rooms in partnership with charitable enterprise, the London Hostels Association. ‘Thanks to this collaboration, 92 individuals will have a place to sleep every night and enjoy three meals a day until Easter 2021,’ explains Lucy. ‘People end up on the streets for many reasons: whatever the cause, we’re committed to providing them with shelter and offering a route out of homelessness.’

CHRISTMAS APPEAL
The goal of Glass Door’s Christmas campaign is to cover December’s cost of almost £125,000: that will provide rooms and meals for 92 guests and fund a hot meal community dinner service for 120 people in London every evening. If you can help, please follow the donate link on the website.
