‘In the secure storage industry, patience is absolutely essential,’ says Christopher Barrow, Chief Executive of Metropolitan Safe Deposits. ‘Even for us, as a long-established company in the sector, it requires time and substantial investment to establish a new vault. That’s why we are so delighted that our Chiswick vault – we opened in 2019 but that’s still relatively “new” for us – is gaining significant traction.
‘Having navigated an unprecedented set of negative circumstances, including global pandemic, post-Brexit fall-out and economic recession, our client base is now increasing every month. That means more personal referrals, which are key in this business, and customer retention figures also continue to be excellent.’
The Chiswick vault was Metropolitan’s first new-build development under current ownership. ‘The vaults and safe deposit boxes were supplied by the industry-leading manufacturer,’ explains Christopher. ‘There are 12 individually alarmed sizes of box with the smallest costing £104 p.a. (£115 p.a. from 1 May) and the site has 24/7 perimeter and interior CCTV, stress-detectors, bullet-resistant airlock doors and multi-layered alarm systems. Client access is controlled by computer-verified ID and fingerprint technology.
‘Most importantly, we never rest on our laurels and that’s why we always agree to regular independent risk reviews. That rigorous scrutiny is undertaken by a globally-respected Security Consultant who spends several days on-site with us, assessing every single element of the infrastructure, procedures and training.’
The last report made no improvement recommendations, referring to an excellent standard of physical, technical and procedural security supported by well-trained, engaged staff. ‘We were particularly pleased that the knowledge and efficiency of our team was recognised,’ adds Christopher. ‘Their professionalism is a core strength of the operation.
