‘I’m delighted that we’ve been able to introduce a unique new addition to Chiswick’s hospitality scene,’ smiles Sunny Powar, co-owner of The Living Room at The Chiswick, the intimate cocktail bar and night-time venue under The Kitchen restaurant on the High Road.
The Living Room is still something of a best-kept secret. ‘The Kitchen and The Living Room operate as part of the same overall concept at The Chiswick, but the businesses are managed separately,’ explains Sunny. ‘We opened ahead of The Kitchen, and that has worked in our favour: it has given us time to understand how the space operates best, refine the experience we provide and listen to and act on customer feedback.
‘Also, we’ve been able to create a little mystery about what we’re doing and fully prepare for our official launch – that will be soon. Of course, now that The Kitchen is open, we can work together (the bar can be accessed from the restaurant) and support one another.’
The Living Room is open at weekends and has a late licence until 2am and a large capacity with ample room to host events. ‘There’s nowhere like this in Chiswick, an elegant lounge setting in which to enjoy pre or post-meal cocktails and a dance later in the evening,’ says Sunny.
‘It’s very important to me that we’re not seen as purely a night-time establishment. We want to play an active community role: this wonderful location – people are usually surprised when they come down the stairs – is empty during the day, so it’s the perfect choice to host birthday parties, corporate and networking events and other functions.
With a growing number of private bookings and a variety of DJs playing a broad range of music genres, The Living Room is proving very popular with the Chiswick and wider West London community. It certainly won’t be a best-kept secret much longer. ‘We’re passionate about hospitality and customer service,’ says Sunny. ‘We feel that this is a special venue and we would love local people to come and join us.’
