‘Last month I was in Sicily, 3000 metres up Mount Etna,’ recalls Steve Bonnici, the ownerof Chiswick Computers. ‘A customer in the Barley Mow Centre emailed me: “Steve, I need a new laptop – urgently!” Fortunately, the connectivity was good: I found the model he wanted and sorted out the sale.’
Steve ran his business from a gloriously cluttered workshop in West London for 23 years. In that time Chiswick Computers built a reputation for problem-solving expertise, honest advice and excellent customer service.
When he gave up the premises last year, that didn’t mean closure. Steve converted to a mobile operation and, working with two members of his old team of experienced engineers, he offers the same scope and high quality of work. ‘We visit clients at home or at their business and, if the problem is complex or it’s simply more convenient, we will also collect, repair and drop off.
‘It’s so important that Windows and Applications are up-to-date and, with the threat of viruses, our Remote Monitoring and Management service is popular with business and domestic users. We will install software that manages a system, detecting issues as they happen.’
One new addition to Steve’s team is Lucy, his AI answering service. ‘When a customer rings out of hours, Lucy will reply and pass on a message,’ he explains. ‘For example, if it’s on a Sunday and someone wants to book an appointment, I’ll be in touch the next day. But if it is: “Help! I’ve got a virus,” then I can respond immediately.
‘We still offer a no-fix, no-fee guarantee, speak plain English and there are few jobs on any machine that we haven’t tackled before – just call or message us or speak to Lucy!’
