Affordable, convenient security for everyone
‘Prospective customers are often surprised by two key elements of our service,’ reveals Christopher Barrow, Chief Executive of Metropolitan Safe Deposits. ‘Firstly, renting a safe deposit box is very affordable and, secondly, the logistics of using a security vault are actually quite straightforward.
‘We don’t have a “typical” client; people from all walks of life take boxes – they are not just for the ultra–wealthy – and that’s why we offer 12 sizes. The smallest costs £104 p.a. and is ideal for keepsakes and jewellery; the largest boxes (ranging from £880 – £2010 p.a.) can accommodate family heirlooms and a lifetime’s collection of art and antiques (all prices include £10,000 insurance).’
For a new client, the first step is to order a box online. ‘There’s no commitment,’ stresses Christopher. ‘That’s simply how we arrange appointments. We will then ring to fix a convenient time to come in for a meeting: our friendly, professional team will explain exactly how the vault operates and answer any questions (detailed information is also available on the website).’
Once the size of box is chosen and the necessary original documents supplied, the rigorous security procedures are completed. Customers are given an access card with a non-transferable biometric fingerprint as well as two unique keys for a physical lock and then shown around the vault. All the safety deposit boxes are individually alarmed and only a given number can be open at one time.
‘It’s perfectly possible for someone to bring their valuables with them and, having concluded the reservation process, begin using their box straight away,’ says Christopher. ‘It takes less than an hour and, after that, customers can come and go as they wish – we are open seven days a week.’
