W6 Garden Centre and Café: Lifting The Spirits

Gorgeous plants, expert advice, tasty food – Spring has come to W6!

Gardening is much more than a favourite pastime. Research has conclusively proved that time spent in a green space can alleviate stress and anxiety, boost mental and physical wellbeing and simply make us happier.

‘We firmly believe in the simple joy of nurturing plants,’ says Louise Alhadeff, Manager of W6 Garden Centre. ‘Some distraction from life’s pressures, and now more than ever, is so important, and our aim is to bring fulfilment and joy through horticulture.

‘There’s no better time to focus on your garden than Spring. It’s such an exciting time of year: the new stock has arrived at W6 and plants are bursting into flower and leaf. We have everything from bulbs, bedding stock and perennials to shrubs and trees.

Whether you want to create a garden from scratch, refresh a tired space or brighten a balcony, there’s a wonderful choice for all budgets and tastes. It’s just such a pleasure to walk around and enjoy the riot of colour.’

At this time of year many people invest in new plants. However, choosing what will thrive in which conditions can be daunting, particularly for novice gardeners. ‘We can help customers navigate those issues, explains Louise. ‘One of our knowledgeable team is always on hand to answer questions and give practical advice. Also, all outdoor plants have a two-year guarantee and we offer a £5 delivery service to W4, W6, W12 and W14.’

The W6 staff work hand in hand with their colleagues in the Urban Gardens team, which is led by Diogo Ferreira. ‘They are horticultural experts who can re-imagine and rejuvenate any space, designing bespoke plans and using premium standard plants from the Garden Centre,’ explains Louise.

One of the highlights of any visit to W6 is the Green Room, the unique houseplant oasis, and that will soon be joined by a new indoor space which Louise calls an “outside inside” room. ‘Opening soon, it will showcase handpicked indoor and outdoor garden-related objects, including wonderful antiques and beautiful plant pots,’ she says.

‘If you need a break from plant-shopping or are meeting up with friends, do drop into our Café. We serve a superb traditional English Breakfast starring Pork Sausages from Macken Brothers (vegan and vegetarian alternatives are also available) as well as delicious brunch options, coffee and tempting cakes and, from late April, afternoon cream teas.

‘All of us here are passionate about the benefits of gardening and making it accessible to all. We want everyone to become confident enough to have a go – we can all be gardeners!’
