Bradley Cahoon: Grove Neighbourhood Centre – at the heart of the community
From pilates to painting, the centre hosts a variety of activities and events for locals. Brad Cahoon wants your suggestions to ensure it remains at the heart of the community. Your community centre needs you!

When I say I work at the Grove Neighbourhood Centre people say they didn’t know there was a community centre in Brackenbury Village.

But, it would be a terrible shame if one day you strolled down Bradmore Park Road and found in its place a ‘Primark Metro’ offering a cut price deal on pink fluffy slippers. Worse still, imagine if it was yet another block of luxury flats. This centre, which dates back to 1973 and is a registered charity, is there to serve the community and is for people of all ages. It is funded by generous donations and run by an army of dedicated volunteers who also help raise funds to keep it open.

So, on October 10 why not come to our Autumn Fete to say hello and find out what we do (we don’t bite). We want your suggestions for what else we can offer the folk living between Goldhawk Road and King Street. What activities or events can we hold to bring people together? What would you like to see the centre do for your community?

We already hold indoor bowls and curling games for the more senior people. There are also yoga classes. But, the centre is for all ages. There has been a successful summer programme for 11 to 19 year olds who have taken part in sports, performing arts, even cookery and baking classes and a beatbox masterclass.

It can also be hired out for children’s parties or be used for meetings.
So, don’t miss the Autumn. Hopefully you will be so impressed you will volunteer a few hours a week to work at the Grove Neighbourhood Centre to ensure it remains at the heart of this wonderful community.

About Editor

Online editor at Keep Things Local

The company publishes four flagship magazines (Chelsea Locals, Chiswick Locals, Richmond Locals and Hammersmith Locals) with more launches planned in London and across the UK. The prime focus of each of these quarterly magazines is to showcase and support the independent traders and small businesses who do so much to give these areas their individual retail character and community spirit. This is achieved through dedicated advertorials which are written, designed and photographed by an experienced team lead by Neil McKelvie.

In every issue, these advertorials are complemented by feature articles which turn the spotlight on different aspects of neighbourhood life and interviews with notable local figures. In addition to appearing in the magazines, every advertorial is also published in the Keep Things Local newsletters, on the website and on social media. Get in touch to be featured in our Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring issues.
