Metropolitan Safe Deposits’ vaults deliver maximum protection
‘We’re fully aware that sometimes there’s a sense of intrigue and even trepidation about using our service,’ smiles Christopher Barrow, Chief Executive of Metropolitan Safe Deposits. ‘After all, most people only see a security vault in a heist film, and that has also prompted the misconception that safe deposit boxes are only for the ultra-wealthy.
‘In fact, renting a box is straightforward and affordability is fundamental to the business. Our smallest box, which is perfect for jewellery and watches, is £99 p.a. (includes £10,000 insurance) and there are no extra access charges.’
The first step for a prospective client is to make an online order for a box. ‘There’s no commitment,’ stresses Christopher. ‘That’s simply how we arrange appointments. We will get in touch to fix a convenient time to meet one of our team, who will explain how we operate and answer any questions (detailed information is also available on the website).
‘Once a box has been chosen (there are 12 sizes), original documents provided and the contract signed, the reservation process is simple: we take fingerprints for a biometric card reader that produces a non-transferable biometric fingerprint, and a photograph, which is uploaded on our control system. The card is programmed and tested, the client is given two unique keys for the physical lock (two people are allowed access to each box) and then shown how everything works in the vault.
‘So, a customer can bring in their valuables and, having completed the security requirements, leave them in their safe deposit box straight away. After that, they are able to come and go when they wish – we are open seven days a week.’
The Chiswick premises itself is equipped with 24/7 perimeter and interior CCTV, seismic and stress detectors, electronic and magnetic locks and sophisticated multi-layered alarm systems. ‘To my knowledge, our type of vault has never been breached,’ says Christopher. ‘We provide the peace of mind of knowing treasured possessions are in safe keeping.’
