Classic barbering skills and old-fashioned customer service in stylish surroundings
‘One of the tricks in this business is making sure you’re on the customer’s wavelength,’ smiles Reb Soltani, manager of The Barbers Club. ‘From our point of view, it’s so important to talk to them and understand exactly what cut or style they want – and occasionally that means reading between the lines.
‘For example, a gentleman came in the other day and asked me to shave the top of his head with clippers and cut the sides with scissors – that’s definitely not the usual way to do it! Also, often people request a specific Number cut without really knowing how cropped it will be. As barbers, we have to judge how and when to make suggestions so that everyone leaves us completely happy. That’s our priority.’
As commuters who pass through Hammersmith bus station will know, The Barbers Club (on the upper level) has recently had a very stylish makeover. ‘We’re really pleased about how the refurbishment has turned out,’ says Reb. ‘It’s smart and the customers love it.’
Both highly experienced barbers, Reb and his colleague Nader have the expertise to provide cuts of all styles – from classic to ultra-modern – and for all ages. ‘We always recommend a wash,’ explains Reb. ‘It’s the best way to cut and style hair. Also, we only ever use the highest quality grooming products, such as the Mitch shampoo brand.’
As well as being skilled barbers, Reb and Nader are warm and welcoming (the coffee is always on) and they take huge pride in what they do. ‘I reckon 80% of our customers are regulars,’ says Reb. ‘It’s a pleasure to catch up with them. On Sundays, lots of fathers and sons come together – that’s become a family tradition.’
