Home Instead Hammersmith and Chiswick was recently nominated as one of only three finalists at the Dementia Care Awards. ‘We were thrilled to be recognised nationally,’ says Director, Maddy Alemayehu. ‘The judging panel included medical professionals, people diagnosed with early-onset dementia and family carers. It was a wonderful testament to the excellence of our team’s work.’
Home Instead provides bespoke Home Help, Companionship and Personal and Respite Care as well as specialist packages for those living with Dementia and Parkinson’s. It’s in-house dementia care training programme won a Princess Royal Trust award and, in the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, the company was rated Outstanding Overall.
‘Navigating the complex decisions around how to look after a relative with dementia is often overwhelming,’ says Maddy. ‘At every point, we provide dedicated home care plans designed to maintain independence and dignity and ensure that every day has meaning. That could mean taking the client to social events, simply spending time with them or creating a calm, familiar environment.
‘In our experience, it is always so much better to discuss potential problems as soon as possible. Early care enables the relationship between the client, their loved ones and the Care Professional to build naturally and retaining a good quality of life for as long as possible can limit time in a more heavily dependent stage. Most importantly, it’s about empowerment and listening to and involving the client when they are able to contribute to making decisions about the future.
