Meet “Steve Bono”, the familiar face behind a new Internet radio station
When Steve Bonnici, the owner of Chiswick Computers, closed his workshop in 2023 and converted to a mobile operation, you could have been forgiven for thinking he was “winding down” to retirement. Far from it. Steve is still very busy, offering expert troubleshooting and Remote Management and Monitoring services.
However, that’s not all. In June Steve is launching Tech Radio, a 24/7 Internet radio station. ‘I had the idea about five years ago, but then I always dismissed it,’ he says. ‘After all, I have absolutely no experience in radio. Finally, a few months ago, I really investigated the Internet Radio phenomenon in some depth, and discovered thousands of stations are out there. I was inspired – it was a case of now or never!
‘I love music, so that was always going to be at the heart of the daily programming. However, I realised that I needed a point of difference, a focus. I thought, what do I know most about? Of course, the answer was, computers. Hence Tech Radio is a music station that also delivers short, digestible “Tech Tips” aimed at people who work with computer technology on a need-to-know basis.
‘I’ve learned five new software packages and completed an intensive broadcasting training course. I was thrown in at the deep end in a studio and I had to learn how to operate the equipment, interview a guest and run a whole show on my own. When my sister heard the tape, she decided that I should have a “radio” persona and christened me Steve Bono!’
Initially, all the content will be pre-recorded. Steve has acquired two syndicated shows, created jingles, assembled thousands of tracks in themed playlists (not all his personal taste) and already has advertisers lined up. ‘Once Tech Radio is up and running, I will add more content and in the future I plan to do live shows.
‘The strapline for the station is: Love Music! Love Tech! Love Life! It has been an extraordinary learning curve and very hard work, but I’m really enjoying it.’ To listen to Tech Radio visit:
