Made-to-measure bespoke rugs are now a key feature of the modern home. Clay Miller of the Carpet Store explains
Just like most businesses, fashions come and go in the world of carpets and flooring. And according to Clay Miller, who with his brother Joe has been running the Carpet Store for 25 years, one of the hottest current trends is for made-to- measure bespoke rugs.
‘We’re definitely seeing more demand,’ says Clay. ‘Where people used to have carpets in their living rooms, now stone and wood floors are popular. The trouble is, they can be quite cold, and that’s where rugs come into their own. We have hundreds of samples in different materials – from contemporary and classic 100% wool to Natural Sisal fibre – and customers can choose any length and a width up to five metres with borders in cotton, linen, jute, suede or even leather. We will then have the rug made for them.’
‘We work with excellent manufacturers and the quality is exceptional. We also sell a product called RugStop which is the perfect solution to the problem of rugs slipping about. And in terms of hard flooring, at the moment we’re fitting the Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) range in many houses and shops,’ says Clay. ‘It is water-proof, scratch-resistant and hard-wearing.’
The Carpet Store stocks a huge selection of carpets and stair runners in wool, natural and man-made fibres – in a choice of colours and classic and modern designs – as well as great-value remnants and vinyl, tile and laminate flooring. ‘All our carpets are moth-treated, that’s very important, and customers are welcome to take samples home,’ says Clay. ‘When it comes to fitting, we always use our own in-house teams and we’ll take up and remove carpets, lay hardboard, ply and latex sub-floors and cut and trim doors.’
