West and Hunter recently celebrated its first year in business on the High Road. That the Gentlemen’s Grooming Club is already so well established in W4 (with 165 5* reviews on Google) is testament to the professional skills and charming customer service of Zamaine Ismail and Paul Dos Reis, the owner and Manager respectively, and their team.
West and Hunter specialises in precision hair cutting, beard grooming and luxury shaves as well as revitalising skin and eye facials. Master Barber Paul, who was the first member of staff to be recruited, has over 30 years’ of top-level barbering experience and, in that time he has built up an impressive roster of personal clients.
‘My aim is to give every client exactly what they require to the best of my ability,’ he explains. ‘Of course, I do offer advice, but it’s much more about developing strong, enduring relationships. For example, my next appointment is with someone whose hair I’ve been cutting for 25 years. As Manager, I’m responsible for training our team and ensuring we follow a consistent method and are always on our A game.’
West and Hunter’s ‘club’ philosophy is epitomised by the elegant interior, with its handsome panelling, Chesterfield sofas, cosy fireplace and bar (the space can be booked for weddings and corporate and private parties). That close attention to detail is also reflected in the use of top quality, environmentally friendly products from Balmain Paris and Oliver J Wood, as well as Zamaine’s own signature brand (the West and Hunter Collection).
‘I didn’t want to launch this business with anyone but Paul,’ smiles Zamaine. ‘We want to be a welcoming second home for our clients and so much of the credit for creating our community is down to him and our amazing team.’
