Home Instead is recruiting CareGivers to provide its local clients with practical support and personal companionship
In later life, with daily tasks becoming physically challenging and social contact narrowing, many older people feel obliged to move away from where they love living. Home Instead Hammersmith, Fulham and Chiswick provides a flexible, trusted alternative; its CareGivers offer the personal support and companionship that helps clients to enjoy fulfilling lives in their homes.
‘Currently, we have a range of CareGiver positions available (full-time, part-time, night and live-in carers),’ says Matt Sirak, who manages Home Instead’s recruitment process. ‘We provide full training, so we’re not looking for candidates with experience or qualifications; rather, we’re interested in character, people who are responsible and caring at heart. The only essential criteria for most roles is that the applicant lives in our area (Chiswick, Fulham Hammersmith, Acton, Ealing and Shepherd’s Bush).
‘The application process is straightforward. I will call for a chat, explain our approach to care and answer questions, and if that goes well, the candidate is invited to come for an interview; of course, when someone joins us, we carry out DBS checks and collect references.’
Home Instead’s training is run by Care Manager, Domi Conti. ‘Domi started as a CareGiver, so she knows exactly what the role entails,’ says Matt. ‘As you would expect, the programme is intensive and all new CareGivers are required to study for their Care Certificate.
‘Most importantly, after training further advice and support is provided by our Field Care Supervisors and, in addition, great thought goes into matching CareGivers with clients. We look for connections in their backgrounds, education and interests that will help them to engage happily with one another.
