Ink and Paper: Bespoke Lettering Design – Workshops and Weddings

Grania O’Brien
Ink & Paper is a small letterpress and calligraphy studio based in Ealing. It is run by Grania O’Brien, who is passionate about these ancient crafts. Letterpress is a 550+ year old printing technique, and we run one and two person workshops from my studio in South Ealing.

We also run pop-up Calligraphy classes. Calligraphy and the art of penmanship has been around for hundreds of years, and is having a resurgence of interest at the moment as people look to learn more artisan skills. It is also great if you have a wedding or big event coming up -we have a number of brides-to-be and people wanting to add a personal touch to their events joining our classes!

Grania trained at what was then the London College of Printing, and after a career in Market Research, decided to return to her first love. This comes across in her teaching, which is described as friendly, knowledgeable and passionate; “It’s important for me to share my love of these beautiful crafts with other people – it is only in the act of teaching and sharing these skills that we can preserve them for future generations”

“I attended a wonderful calligraphy workshop with Grania and it was fantastic from start to finish. We each had a little place setting with our own ink, notebook, pen and nib that were ours to take home! She is a wonderful teacher and we all left feeling much more confident in our calligraphy skills and having made some new friends too. And not to mention the prosecco and cake on offer too!! What is not to like?” – Emma – previous calligraphy student

We are running a calligraphy workshop at The Maker Station in Brentford. The Maker Station overlooks the river, and is a wonderful new crafts collective run by Fay & Kal. Their specialism is upholstery, and they run a number of classes in this, however you can also learn pyrography, how to create leather accessories, and of course calligraphy.
