Ruth Clarke

Ruth Clarke transforms and soothes mind and body through the power of therapeutic massage

In 2005 Ruth Clarke was working as an NHS Paramedic when she began having back problems. Her condition deteriorated and, two years later, after being diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her hip, a date was made for a replacement operation.

‘It looked like I’d have to retire from the ambulance service, I wasn’t running and horse-riding and my world was closing in,’ Ruth recalls. ‘I began exploring natural treatments to alleviate the pain; in particular, holistic massage therapy made a significant difference. My back and hip began to release, I stopped living on painkillers and the transformation was so dramatic that I was able to cancel the surgery.’

Inspired by her experience, Ruth retrained as a massage therapist, started practising in 2007 and, in 2013, set up London Holistic Therapy to offer a convenient, integrated mobile massage service in West London. ‘I work with a wide range of ladies (Ruth sees men only by personal referral): clients with persistent aches and pains often caused by sitting in front of computers, people who want to unwind from hectic lifestyles and mums who are juggling a stressful family life with young children and need “me” time.’

Ruth provides a 90-minute massage and brings all the equipment – including a heated couch and a diode mat to neutralise low level radiation from mobiles and computers – to the client’s home. ‘I take a bespoke approach, choosing the most effective massage techniques to suit each individual’s issues. I combine this with breathing techniques, essential oils and mindfulness – it’s all about creating a secure, relaxing environment in which we can build a trusting, long-term relationship.’

Ruth is offering a limited number of complimentary 30-minute taster massages for new clients who are in discomfort or suffering with stress and she also gives Seated Massage sessions in the offices of corporate clients (she has worked at the Business Design Centre and at Chiswick War Memorial homes). ‘My aim is to restore, protect and maintain good health, ensuring my clients feel happier and calmer. It’s a lovely job to have!’

About Editor

Online editor at Keep Things Local

The company publishes four flagship magazines (Chelsea Locals, Chiswick Locals, Richmond Locals and Hammersmith Locals) with more launches planned in London and across the UK. The prime focus of each of these quarterly magazines is to showcase and support the independent traders and small businesses who do so much to give these areas their individual retail character and community spirit. This is achieved through dedicated advertorials which are written, designed and photographed by an experienced team lead by Neil McKelvie.

In every issue, these advertorials are complemented by feature articles which turn the spotlight on different aspects of neighbourhood life and interviews with notable local figures. In addition to appearing in the magazines, every advertorial is also published in the Keep Things Local newsletters, on the website and on social media. Get in touch to be featured in our Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring issues.
