Less well known is that Schmidt produces elegant multi-functional furniture for the whole home. Everything is made with the company’s distinctive flair and engineering precision and the bespoke designs are precisely tailored to how clients really live day to day.
‘It’s true, we’re mostly thought of as a kitchen business,’ confirms Showroom Manager, Lisa-Marie Johnson. ‘But, increasingly, previous clients are asking us to work with them on other rooms. That makes sense as many kitchens today are open-plan to living spaces and share elements. Whether tables and chairs, sideboards or bookcases, we can design them in the same or a complementary material to achieve a consistent look.’
Schmidt’s furniture features living room, bedroom, bathroom and home office ranges in free-standing and integrated, bespoke and standard options. ‘’We always take the time to understand the clients’ requirements,’ says Lisa-Marie. ‘Do they hang or fold clothes? Do they want TV units to be discreet or a focal point? We’ve even been asked to include a wardrobe compartment for a wedding dress. Armed with all the relevant information, we come up with successful solutions in terms of style, colour and budget.’
Lisa-Marie and her team, Gudrun and Luis, are also past masters at maximising space and storage potential. ‘In a loft, we can design furniture in any size or configuration to fit the slope,’ she explains. ‘Also, we have the flexibility to go to a height of 2.6 metres uninterrupted with bookcases and wardrobes – that’s so useful in Victorian houses with high ceilings.’
