Steve Bonnici founded Chiswick Computers almost 20 years ago and, since then, he has built a reputation for professional expertise and superb customer service (in 2016 the business was awarded Which? Trusted Trader status). ‘We’ll tackle anything – computers, tablets, phones and PCs – and experience is our best asset,’ he says. ‘There’s very little that we haven’t seen or done before.’

In recent years, ad hoc remote support for home and corporate users has become an important element in the business. ‘As long as a machine will boot up and there’s Internet access, anyone can contact us, describe what is happening and we’ll log in from the workshop and look for a solution,’ explains Steve.

‘For example, a member of staff at Wilshere’s Accountants in Chiswick recently reported that his mouse was freezing at 2.30pm every day for no apparent reason. I logged on and diagnosed that the anti-virus software was unexpectedly kicking in and running a scan; it had actually been set up to run out of hours, but a system update had changed the timing.

‘I estimate that we’re able to fix 80% of issues remotely and, if we can’t, we don’t charge a fee. In those cases, we ask the client to bring their machine in for further investigation.’

Steve also offers his clients 24/7 Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM). ‘We will carry out updates and anticipate, detect and resolve any issues – it’s a preventative alternative to the usual break/fix scenario. Windows computers produce vast amounts of data every second; our software analyses that information and flags up what is important, and that allows us to take any necessary action. For home users, we also include anti-virus and cloud back-up with the RMM package.

‘And, of course, as well as remote support we’re happy to provide walk-in assistance at the workshop – if we can sort out a problem on the spot or give advice, we’ll do so!’
