‘The results of our recent national Take Care survey highlighted just how many family carers are near burn-out,’ says Maddy Alemayehu, Director of Home Instead Chiswick and Hammersmith. ‘They try to cope as best they can, but feel under-appreciated, under pressure and under-supported.
‘We want them to know that they’re not alone. You don’t have to be a client to call and ask us for advice: we’re happy to share our experience and knowledge.’ Home Instead provides bespoke care, including Home Help and Personal Care as well as specialist packages for those living with Dementia and Parkinson’s. In its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, the company was judged Outstanding Overall.
‘Family or friends usually get in touch,’ explains Maddy. ‘One of our Care Managers will then visit the potential client to discuss their needs and, if all goes well, devise a tailor-made care plan. We then match the client with a Care Professional: we place huge emphasis on finding points of contact between them based on background, personality and interests.
‘People are often surprised by the scope of our service. We administer and collect medication, prepare nutritional meals, do the laundry, organise social activities, look after pets and liaise with the GP and other health professionals.
‘At all times we’re available and pro-active in improving the care routine. Our aim is to enable families to enjoy quality time with their relatives and be sure that they are well looked after.’
