World-class vaults that deliver affordability and convenience
Since the 1980s, major UK banks have been abandoning the safe custody sector, a process that has accelerated in recent years. Today, HSBC, Barclays, RBS and Co-op Bank no longer provide safe deposit boxes in their branches and NatWest and Lloyds stopped offering the facility to new clients over a decade ago.
Curiously, with rising concerns about crime, this trend has occurred when the public demand for secure storage is stronger than ever. ‘The result of this supply shortage is that many families cannot find a vault near where they live or work,’ says Christopher Barrow, Chief Executive of Metropolitan Safe Deposits. ‘We provide a proven alternative option: a safe haven in West London for your most valuable items.
‘Our basement vaults on the High Road were designed and built by the industry’s leading manufacturer. The premises has 24/7 CCTV of the perimeter and interior, seismic and stress detectors and three multi-layered alarm and surveillance systems; and client access is controlled by computer-verified ID and biometric fingerprint procedures.
‘Of course, building trust with customers is essential, and that’s why we willingly participate in regular independent audits of every aspect of our business. The last was carried out in August by a globally-respected security risk consultant: she spent several days with us, examining our infrastructure, operational processes and staff recruitment and professional training – the importance of the latter cannot be under-stated and our team is second to none.’
The Chiswick vaults contain 12 sizes of safe deposit box, with the smallest costing £99, £160 and £190 p.a. (including £10,000 insurance) and the largest £1910 p.a. ‘In the UK, we are still less accustomed to using what Americans call a Bank Box,’ says Christopher. ‘However, we’re delighted that interest has grown significantly in our service and, in particular, among local residents.
