Fuller’s: The George IV – A Community Local

Rachel Watson

The George IV is the perfect place to pop in for a pint, enjoy a meal or attend a live event

Live music five nights a week, the Headliners Comedy Club, lunchtime meet-ups for parents and babies, a brain-teasing quiz, a DJ spinning vinyl twice a month on Saturdays… the team at The George IV certainly works hard to put on events for all ages and tastes.

Rachel Watson is the General Manager of the Fuller’s flagship pub. ‘When I took over four years ago, we looked at what Chiswick needed. The decision was taken to remove Sky Sports and open up The George IV to the whole community. That’s been very successful. I think we’ve created a family-friendly pub.’

As well as the grand main bar, two self-contained function rooms provide superb facilities for special occasions and business meetings: the elegant Boston Room accommodates 200 guests and has its own stage, mixing desk and PA system, making it ideal for large gatherings and conferences. Upstairs, on the mezzanine floor, the Games Room can host private parties of up to 25 people.

Rachel is particularly proud of The George IV’s reputation as a live music venue. ‘We’re the best for miles around. We put on a fantastic variety of gigs: bands, acoustic evenings, open mic nights and showcases for up-and-coming artists. Screaming with Laughter, our monthly (on the second Wednesday) lunchtime club for parents and babies under one, is also popular. It’s a wonderful chance to get together and enjoy a laugh and a lunch – and the babies can make as much noise as they like.’

As you would expect of a Fuller’s hostelry, the beer and food are excellent. ‘As well as Fuller’s ales and the seasonal keg, we keep a rotating selection of craft beers,’ says Rachel. ‘Also, we have an excellent wine list and everything on the seasonally changing menus, including “hero” dishes such as London Porter Smoked Salmon, is freshly prepared to order by our chefs.

‘It’s been so exciting to be part of The George IV’s evolution over the last few years. We’re all proud of what we have achieved.’

About Editor

Online editor at Keep Things Local

KEEP THINGS LOCAL IS A MEDIA BUSINESS WITH A UNIQUE LOCAL FOCUS

The company publishes four flagship magazines (Chelsea Locals, Chiswick Locals, Richmond Locals and Hammersmith Locals) with more launches planned in London and across the UK. The prime focus of each of these quarterly magazines is to showcase and support the independent traders and small businesses who do so much to give these areas their individual retail character and community spirit. This is achieved through dedicated advertorials which are written, designed and photographed by an experienced team lead by Neil McKelvie.

In every issue, these advertorials are complemented by feature articles which turn the spotlight on different aspects of neighbourhood life and interviews with notable local figures. In addition to appearing in the magazines, every advertorial is also published in the Keep Things Local newsletters, on the website and on social media. Get in touch to be featured in our Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring issues.
